Dimensions: 18"x24"
Artist Statement:
California will always hold a special place for me. I’m a coastal girl having grown up in Florida and spending summers in SoCal. I love the ocean, waves, sun, and the sunrises and sunsets. But what makes California special to me is my family. Some of my favorite childhood memories are from summers spent there, visiting my grandparents and cousins.
This piece started as a simple perspective drawing. Basically, an attempt to get a beach fix while at art school. But I unintentionally chose a reference image of the Oceanside Pier, which is the city where my grandparents lived. I grew up visiting that pier with the people I love most. So many fun memories were made there; it makes me nostalgic, but I’m so grateful for that time with my family, especially my grandparents.
